Well we are a week away from there’s no ice on Green Bay. there’s supposed to be a big storm system coming in on Christmas Day that will bring arctic air back into the region. really looking forward to that storm system. Last weekend I was at the Wisconsin ice show in Wausau, pretty cool show for its first time. I will start to update this page daily if the weather is favorable for ice formation.

Warm…warm…Warm

Just got back from the St.Paul Ice show. If you have never gone you should go. Its the Super Bowl of ice fishing. Had alot of fun. The warm temps are sure making most ice anglers nervous about the up coming ice season. I am very confident it will be a cold winter. I will be at the Wisco ice fishing show in Wausau this weekend. Stop by and say hi.

Ice Updates

With the cold temps finally here most of us are staring to dig out the ice fising gear. I hope everyone had a good fall. The fishing was pretty good for most, when you could get out. I will be giving updates on this page as the ice forms. This week the temps look good but this weekend looks a bit warm. Stay tuned for latest ice reports. Dont forget to like JJs Guide Service on facebook!

Salmon fishing continues!

Even with the temps almost hitting 100 degrees the salmon are still going strong. Most guide trips are limiting out or still coming very close to there limits. Fish are ranging any where from 8-23lbs so far. I suspect the size will be increasing as the summer continues. Water temps are 68-72 in spots. There is no real bait patterns flasher and flies along with flies are still working pretty good! Give me a jingle to get in on this amazing bite!

SALMON!

Well I must admit I have never seen such a fantastic salmon bite in my life! The unusual spring has the salmon ahead of the game. We have been fishing the Kings any where  from 80-170- fow with GREAT catches coming almost every day. Most trips are coming in with there limits or very close. There is really no pattern, spoons, flies, dipsys…you name it, there hitting it. In my years of salmon fishing I have never seen such a amazing bite like this!

Was out on Tuesday and we had our cooler full in a little over an hour with a couple fish getting off. Fish range any where from 8-21lbs. I anticipate the bite to hold for the next few weeks. Now is the time to get in on the world class salmon bite!

Thanks Capt. JJ

Good Bites!!

Well I must admit I have been slacking on my reports. With finals past me at UWGB it is full throttle fishing. I have been fishing bass, walleye and salmon the past couple of weeks. Walleyes in Door County are slowing a bite but I hear the bite is picking up in the lower bay. I will be investigating on Wednesday.

Smallmouths are ahead of the game. Many fish on bed right now. I am leaving them alone to let them do there thing. I have been catching a few. Not to many pigs but quality fish. Tube, grubs working with lighter jigs. Cranks also working 5-8fow.

Salmon bite is phenomenal right now. I was out this morning with a good friend, Bill Welter. We departed at 530 am and were fishing by 630. We had a blast. We were pulling lines by 9am to come in. Doubles and even triples. On fish number ten we had two other rods pop off with fish. we reeled them in and released them at the boat. HOW COOL!!! Fishing deep 150 with spoons and flies working. No real pattern. A day neither BIll or I will ever forget!!!

GIve me a call to get in on this world class bite!!

Gettin a little jiggy!

Well I had probably one of the best night on the water so far this year. It seems every time out it just keeps getting better and better. I went out tuesday night with a couple buddies from UWGB. We decided to jig for eyes on the shorelines. Boy were we in for a supraise. In 3 hours jigging we had boated 17 eyes and lost numerous other fish. Fish ranged any where from 28″-20. All healthy looking fish. I hardly had time to fish and was mainly net boy. We used jig heads with Berkley Gulp.

We hit the water again tonight. It was wet and cold. Rained hard for about an hour. I guess when your young like us you’ll fish in any conditons. We used the same tactic and it produced about 9 eyes

in two hours of fishing. Took a couple breaks to warm the fingers and have snack. Fish ranged from 26-18″. All fish were spawned out. Water temp around 45-46ish.

Good Weekend in Door County

Well it was sure another very productive weekend fishing in Door County. I started out on Thursday evening in search for eyes. I had to good buddies of mine out with me. One who has never trolled for walleyes. Started fishing the rocky shorelines and picked up several decent walleyes 18-22″. Then we got pushed in shallow and hooked in to a tank. When we put her on the scale it bounced 11.3-11.6. What a fish. Still prespawn. She is still swimming! 🙂

Friday we set out after browns. The bite was a bite slower but we trolled little Rapalas  and hooked into two fish. Both nice fish. Natural bait colors worked best for us!

Saturday night I had a guide trip with some clients from this winter. The evening started slow but that was short lived. We hooked in to a TANK brown. 13lbs just before dusk and the walleye bite was pretty consistent. Had 8 fish for a couple hours trolling. Stick baits worked best. No bait pattern.  Was a blast.

The walleye bite will remain good for the next 1.5-2.5 weeks depending on mother nature. I have immediate openings if you are interested.
