Today we spent time checking ice conditions on several offshore structures where we typically fish. At this point, there are still a number of small open-water pockets, and overall the ice is rougher than what we’ve seen in the past 5–8 years. Because of that, we’re being extra cautious and are already scouting the safest and smoothest routes for access once conditions allow.

The good news is the forecast moving forward looks excellent for continued ice formation. If temperatures hold as expected, we should be crossing the finish line and gaining safe access within the next week. As always, safety comes first, and we’ll continue monitoring conditions closely before heading out.

Stay tuned for updates as things develop.

We’re gearing up for another exciting ice fishing season here on the Door Peninsula, and winter is definitely making its presence known.

Last week’s storms brought a mix of chunk ice and rough ice along many of the shorelines. While that makes for challenging conditions early on, it’s all part of the process. Our focus right now is putting in the work to establish safe roads and clear paths out to the whitefish grounds. It takes time, effort, and patience, but it’s how we make sure our season starts off right.

Currently, the whitefish spots are showing about 4–5 inches of ice, a promising sign for this point in the season. As conditions continue to improve and ice builds, we’ll keep working daily to monitor safety and accessibility.

We’re looking forward to what this winter has in store and can’t wait to get back out there doing what we love. Stay tuned for updates as the ice develops and the season unfolds.
