We are inching closer and closer to the ice season. The current temps for the next 48 hours do not get above the mid single digits. The next two nights will have double digit below zero temps for the area. We will begin checking ice on some of our near shore whitefish spots and gradually check our off shore deep water spots as we progress through the week. We are about a good seven days or so before we begin our ice season. More details to come this week.

The new year is here and it is bringing some colder weather for the first half of the month. This cold weather will really accelerate ice formation on the bay, if this pattern continues we hope to be on the ice by mid to late January. Single digits temps and light winds are the right combination to make ice on the bay. We are still taking reservations for the upcoming season. We look forward to another safe and successful season.

There was a large crack that opened up on 2-4. This was a very large and unpredicted crack that we did not anticipate to open up where it did. There were high profile guides who are some of the safest on the entire bay who got caught on this. Like I said the ice broke in a spot that was not anticipated and was not even a working crack in that area. Truly and act of God. There were anglers and gear strand for about 24 hours until west winds pushed the large sheet of ice back. All of JJs Guide Service gear is fine and safe. After two days of rechecking ice from sun up to sundown we were able to get our ice houses in position for fishing operations. We resumed guiding on 2-8. The super cold conditions is making ice by the inches daily. I swear in the past 48 hours we made 4″ of ice. The bay of Green Bay is almost froze from the Fox River to Bay De Noc.
The bite has been really good, we are fishing 60-90ft of water with good catches. Our availability for the rest of the month is pretty tight. We have some week days open during the last full week of February.

Well we are slowly increasing our ice coverage across the bay of Green Bay. We have been check many of our near shore spots as it will be the areas we will be fishing for the next 7-10 days. We have a strip of about 400 yards of some thin/punky ice that needs to get thicker. Beyond that the traditional whitefish spots have 8-10″ of ice. Its just crossing that strip of bad ice. The cold next couple days will help but prolonged cold is needed for that to come safe. We will be out there checking ice in the coming days and hope to have a couple customers out this weekend.

Wel the recent warmth has impacted the ice somewhat but not as bad as expected. Looking ahead I think we will run trips through the weekend and possibly into next week depending on how the ice holds up. Fishing has been pretty good with most groups getting limits or close to that. This is the last stretch of fishing till next season, get it before it’s gone!

Fishing has been pretty decent to good for most groups. It seems the groups who pay attention and put forth a good presentation seem to fair better. Some traditional whitefish rigs have been working, but it seems horizontal presentations are woking better with live bait. We have been experimenting with goby type presentations and have been woking very good. The fish this year seem to be healthy, and our size seems to be bigger than average! I have a couple open spots for this coming week. Thanks JJ 920 493 2953

As of today we are fishing our traditional deep water spots with pretty good success. The ice is in pretty decent shape with a consistent 9-14” in most areas. We have been fishing with the traditional whitefish rigs with good success in 50-70fow. The fish seem to be bigger and healthier than compared to previous year. Still have some open dates! JJ.
